No Prep Plans: What Would You Do? Emergency Response Plan
You Are the Mayor During a Crisis
Grades 4–8
Think. Discuss. Decide. Defend.
What would you do if you suddenly became the mayor of a city facing a major emergency?
In this engaging, real-world decision-making lesson, students take on the role of a city leader responding to a natural disaster or major crisis. Working through a realistic scenario, they must analyze the situation, consider multiple perspectives, weigh difficult trade-offs, and create an emergency response plan that protects their community.
Unlike traditional worksheets, this lesson has no single correct answer. Students are challenged to think critically, justify their decisions with evidence, defend their reasoning, and recognize that leadership often requires making difficult choices with limited information.
Perfect for developing critical thinking, communication, leadership, civics, and problem-solving skills in an engaging, discussion-based format.
