No Prep Plans: Mythology Around the World – Mesoamerican Mythology

No Prep Plans: Mythology Around the World – Mesoamerican Mythology | MythInvestigation | Grades 6–10

Explore the mythology of ancient Mesoamerica through creation stories, Hero Twins, gods, maize, calendars, astronomy, archaeology, and living cultures today!

In this no-prep Mesoamerican mythology research and group project, students investigate traditions connected to the Maya and Aztec (Mexica) while examining how mythology connects to real historical and archaeological evidence. Students explore the Popol Vuh, the creation of humans from maize, the Hero Twins, Aztec world ages, major deities, monumental cities, and sophisticated calendars and astronomy.

Students then work collaboratively to create a MythInvestigation, connecting stories with evidence from cities, calendars, crops, artifacts, and archaeology while recognizing that Maya and other Indigenous communities remain living cultures today.
