Teacher Notes & Disclaimer
This resource is designed to supplement an existing Geography, Humanities, Social Studies, Environmental Studies, or related curriculum. It is not intended to replace a school's required curriculum, standards, textbook, or teacher-led instruction.
Teachers are encouraged to adapt, adjust, expand, or shorten the activities as needed based on student ability, available instructional time, curriculum requirements, technology access, and local context. Teachers may also provide approved research sources or preselect resources for students who need additional support.
Because resource production, global supply chains, trade relationships, and geopolitical conflicts can change, students should use current, reliable, age-appropriate sources when completing the investigation. Teachers should review current-conflict topics and resources for suitability before assigning them.
This lesson gives students the opportunity to think like geographers as they investigate an essential question: How does where Earth's resources are located influence who has economic and political power?
