No Prep Plans: Inca Empire
Research + Group Project (Inca Empire Investigation)

Take students high into the Andes Mountains as they explore one of the most impressive civilizations in world history. In this inquiry-based research and group project, students investigate the rise, achievements, and legacy of the Inca Empire, the largest empire in the pre-Columbian Americas.

Part of the Ancient Mesoamerica Series, this lesson challenges students to examine how the Inca governed millions of people across rugged mountain landscapes using advanced road networks, agricultural terraces, quipu record-keeping systems, and highly organized government structures. Students gather evidence, analyze historical information, create a project, and develop a historical claim about what made the Inca Empire extraordinary.

Perfect for Ancient Civilizations, World History, Social Studies, Ancient Americas, or Middle School Humanities classrooms.
