No Prep Plans | People Who Shaped America: Virginia | Allen Iverson Living Wax Museum | Grades 4–8

Bring Virginia history, sports history, biography, and performance together with this engaging Allen Iverson Living Wax Museum Research + Group Project! Students investigate the life and career of Virginia-born basketball superstar Allen Iverson before transforming their research into a first-person Living Wax Museum presentation.

Students explore Iverson’s beginnings in Hampton, Virginia, his rise from a gifted high school athlete to NBA superstar, and the speed, crossover, scoring ability, toughness, and fearless style that made him such an exciting player. They also examine his MVP success, NBA Finals run, Hall of Fame career, and lasting influence on basketball culture and fans.

The culminating project challenges students to bring Iverson’s story to life by planning a pose, costume, props, and first-person “press the button” speech. Students must communicate not only what Iverson accomplished, but also the toughness, heart, perseverance, and authenticity behind his story.
Designed for Grades 4–8, this no-prep lesson works well for Virginia history, Black History Month, sports history, biography studies, enrichment, research projects, or project-based learning.
