Ancient World Turning Points | The Fall of Rome | Cause/Effect Investigation

Ancient World Turning Points | The Fall of Rome | Cause/Effect Investigation Report | Grades 6–10

Why did one of history's most powerful empires collapse, and how did its fall change the world?

In this no-prep Ancient World Turning Points lesson, students investigate the complex causes behind the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 CE.
Through historical research, critical thinking, cause-and-effect analysis, and collaborative discussion, students explore how political instability, economic difficulties, military challenges, and external pressures combined to weaken one of history's most influential empires.

Students work in groups to create a Cause/Effect Investigation Report, examining historical evidence, tracing connections between different causes, and explaining why Rome's collapse represented a major turning point in European history.
