No Prep Plans: Ancient Greece Civilization & City-States
Greek Architecture
Research + Group Project (Build a Greek Temple Blueprint)
Grades 6–8
Introduce students to one of the greatest achievements of the ancient world with this engaging, no-prep lesson on Greek architecture! Students investigate the design principles behind the temples, theaters, and public buildings of Ancient Greece before applying their learning to create a Greek Temple Blueprint inspired by authentic classical architecture.
Students explore the three classical column orders—Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian—while discovering how Greek architects used symmetry, proportion, geometry, and clever optical illusions to create buildings that continue to inspire architects more than 2,500 years later. Working collaboratively, students design and label their own temple plans, combining historical research with creativity and engineering thinking.
