No Prep Sub Plans: Buddhism in Ancient Korea
Research + Group Project (Temple & Beliefs Visual Guide)
Grades 6–10
Help students explore how Buddhism transformed Korean civilization with this engaging research and group project focused on the spread of Buddhism in Ancient Korea.
This resource is part of the larger Ancient Korea: Kingdoms & Dynasties series, designed to help students investigate the religions, cultures, leaders, architecture, and historical achievements that shaped early Korea through collaborative, student-centered learning experiences.
In this activity, students investigate how Buddhism arrived in Korea during the Three Kingdoms period and how it reshaped Korean art, government, architecture, education, and daily life. Working in groups, students create a detailed Temple & Beliefs Visual Guide connecting the arrival of Buddhism, famous temples, sacred texts, cultural blending, and Buddhism’s continued role in modern Korean society.
Students also explore the connections between Korean Buddhism and older Korean beliefs, including shamanism and ancestor traditions.
