No Prep Plans: People Who Shaped America: Alaska – Ted Stevens

No Prep Plans: People Who Shaped America – Ted Stevens
Research + Newspaper Front Page Project
Grades 4–8

Introduce your students to the life and legacy of Ted Stevens, one of Alaska's most influential political leaders and the longest-serving Republican senator of his era. Through research, discussion, collaboration, and creative writing, students explore how Stevens helped shape modern Alaska by supporting statehood, improving transportation and infrastructure, strengthening communities, and influencing major legislation.

Rather than simply memorizing historical facts, students investigate the responsibilities of public leadership while learning how newspapers communicate important events. Students then apply their learning by creating a Newspaper Front Page that reports on Ted Stevens' achievements as if they were breaking news, using headlines, articles, captions, and historical evidence.
This ready-to-use lesson requires minimal teacher preparation and combines history, research, informational writing, critical thinking, and collaborative learning into one engaging classroom experience.
