Five Themes of Geography — LocationLocation Mystery Challenge | Mystery Location Detective Case | Grades 6–8
Put every location skill students have learned to the test with this engaging culminating geography challenge!
In the Mystery Location Detective Case, students work collaboratively to choose a mystery location, research accurate geographic information, and create a series of clues that challenge another group to determine their location. Along the way, students apply absolute and relative location, latitude and longitude, hemispheres, and spatial relationships while practicing precision, research, reasoning, and problem-solving.
Rather than simply reviewing definitions, students must use multiple geography skills together to create and solve an authentic geographic mystery.
This lesson is part of the Five Themes of Geography Series and focuses on the theme of Location. It is especially effective as a culminating activity or review after students have studied the major location concepts in the unit.
