Anti-Kangaroo Words Antonyms Vocabulary Worksheets | Word Puzzles | Grades 5–8
Meet the evil twin of Kangaroo Words!
An Anti-Kangaroo Word contains an opposite or antonym hidden within its own letters. The letters of the hidden word appear in the same order, but they don't always have to be right next to each other.
In this engaging vocabulary challenge, students use word meanings, antonyms, spelling patterns, and critical thinking to uncover the “Evil Twin” hiding inside each Anti-Kangaroo Word.
Students may even need to define an unfamiliar word first before they can determine its opposite, making this much more than a simple word puzzle!
TWO LEVELS OF CHALLENGE
Level 1 — More Accessible
Students begin with more familiar vocabulary and easier-to-recognize hidden opposites. This level is perfect for introducing the concept and building confidence.
Level 2 — More Challenging
Students tackle advanced vocabulary and less obvious hidden antonyms. Students are encouraged to define unfamiliar words before searching for their “Evil Twins,” adding an additional layer of vocabulary development and word analysis.
