IB DP TOK – Exhibition & Essay Skills Connecting Personal Experience to TOK

IB DP TOK – Exhibition & Essay SkillsConnecting Personal Experience to TOK | Design a Reflection Portfolio

Help students transform personal experiences into meaningful TOK evidence rather than simply telling stories.

This no-prep TOK lesson challenges students to examine themselves as knowers and consider what their own experiences reveal about knowledge. Students explore how personal experience can demonstrate ideas about method, justification, perspective, and responsibility, while learning to separate the parts of an experience that contribute to TOK analysis from details that are merely anecdotal.

Students then Design a Reflection Portfolio that can grow throughout the TOK course and provide useful material for both Exhibition and Essay preparation. A key component asks students to document a genuine “Changed My Mind” moment and identify the specific argument or evidence that caused them to reconsider their position.
