No Prep Plans: Human Geography – Borders & Political Geography

No Prep Plans: Human Geography – Borders & Political Geography
Three-Border Case Studies Investigation

Borders shape where countries begin and end—but they also influence culture, identity, trade, conflict, and everyday life. In this engaging inquiry-based lesson, students investigate three real-world international borders with very different origin stories: a colonial straight-line border, a natural geographic border, and a recent post-conflict border.

Students compare how and why borders were created, examine the people and cultures living along them, and evaluate how geography continues to influence political relationships today. They finish by identifying one border they believe could change in the future and support their prediction with evidence.
