No Prep Plans: Silla Unification of Korea Research + Group Project (Timeline)

No Prep Plans: Silla Unification of Korea
Research + Group Project (How Silla Unified Korea Timeline Board)
Grades 6–10

Help students explore one of the most important turning points in Korean history with this engaging research and timeline project focused on the rise of Silla and the unification of the Korean peninsula.

This resource is part of the larger Ancient Korea: Kingdoms & Dynasties series, designed to help students investigate the kingdoms, leaders, wars, diplomacy, religion, and cultural achievements that shaped early Korea through collaborative, student-centered learning experiences.

In this activity, students examine how the smallest and most isolated of Korea’s Three Kingdoms defeated both Baekje and Goguryeo to unify Korea for the first time in history. Working in groups, students create a detailed Timeline Board connecting alliances, battles, key leaders, and the golden age that followed under Unified Silla.

Students investigate the role of the Hwarang warriors, Queen Seondeok, General Kim Yu-shin, the alliance with Tang China, and Silla’s later struggle to maintain Korean independence.
