No Prep Plans: Ancient Korea--Fall of Goryeo Dynasty

No Prep Plans: Ancient Korea Wars, Politics & Turning Points
Fall of Goryeo Dynasty
Research + Group Project (Cause/Effect Chart) Grades 6–10

This lesson is part of the Ancient Korea Wars, Politics & Turning Points series, designed to help students explore major conflicts, political struggles, invasions, leadership decisions, and defining moments that shaped Korean history.

Help students investigate the dramatic collapse of the Goryeo Dynasty with this engaging, inquiry-based research and group project! In this lesson, students examine how nearly 500 years of Goryeo rule came to an end through Mongol domination, political division, temple corruption, pirate raids, economic struggles, and the rise of General Yi Seong-gye.

Students analyze the major causes behind the dynasty’s collapse and create a visual “Cause-and-Effect Chart” showing how different pressures weakened Goryeo and ultimately led to the founding of the Joseon Dynasty in 1392.
