No Prep Plans: Mythology Around the World – West African Mythology | Grades 6–10

No Prep Plans: Mythology Around the World – West African Mythology | Storytelling Showcase | Grades 6–10

Explore a mythology where Anansi wins through cleverness instead of strength—and stories carried through oral tradition crossed the Atlantic and are still told today.

In this no-prep West African mythology research and group project, students explore Anansi and Akan storytelling, the trickster tradition, griots, the Sundiata epic, Yoruba traditions, and the movement of West African stories into the Caribbean and Americas. Students then transform their research into an oral Storytelling Showcase, analyzing how a tale works and preparing to tell it rather than simply read it.
