No Prep Plans: Ancient Korea — Government, Trade & Society
Peasant Life in Joseon
Research + Group Project (Day in the Life Journal)
Grades 6–10
Bring the daily world of ordinary Joseon villagers to life with this engaging Ancient Korea research and group project! In this lesson, students investigate the lives of Joseon peasants — the sangmin farmers, fishermen, weavers, and craftspeople who made up the majority of Korean society for centuries.
Working collaboratively, students create a “Day in the Life Journal” written from the perspective of a Joseon peasant child or family. Students explore farming cycles, village life, food, festivals, taxes, traditions, and the routines that shaped everyday life in premodern Korea.
