Extended Essay Assessment Criteria Self-Audit | IB DP EE No Prep Lesson

Extended Essay Assessment Criteria Self-Audit | IB DP EE No Prep Lesson

Help students move beyond simply reading the Extended Essay assessment criteria and start using them as a practical tool for evaluating and improving their own work.

This no-prep Extended Essay lesson guides students through all five EE assessment criteria and helps them translate formal descriptors into useful self-audit questions. Students then return to their own developing essay, locate specific evidence connected to Criteria A–D, honestly evaluate strengths and gaps, and turn their findings into a focused revision plan. The lesson concludes by preparing students to seek targeted feedback from their EE supervisor.

Student Learning & Application
Rather than treating the assessment criteria as a checklist to consult at the end of the Extended Essay process, students use them to examine their work while it is still developing. They identify evidence already present in their draft, locate areas that are weak or missing, determine their highest revision priorities, and create concrete plans for strengthening their essay.

This resource works well for Grades 11–12, Extended Essay classes, EE workshops, independent work sessions, supervisor-meeting preparation, draft review, revision workshops, and individual EE support.

NO PREP: Print the pages you need or provide them digitally. Students can work individually, collaboratively, or as part of a teacher-guided EE workshop.
